A recent survey conducted by a recruitment Firm in London found that majority of workers think that flexible working hours not only improved the work-life balance but also became the determining factor while choosing a job. In fact, companies today are more likely to retain their staff for long if they offer work-from-home options! The good news is that the Work From Home (WFH) concept is also gaining currency in India. Many companies encourage their employees to work from their residence. Though it's too early to say if the WFH concept is helping in staff retention, the policy is certainly helping in easy workflow for employees with long and odd office hours.
Someone working in an IT firm says, "I usually go to office once in 10 days. Some of my friends, who are employed elsewhere, are amused to find me not having to go down to work regularly. But WFH ensures better productivity and also leaves me with a lot of room for family time. Since I have to interact with overseas clients who happen to be at different time zones, working from office would mean me having to be at work at very odd hours. Now, I begin work from home at 3 pm and continue till midnight. Since I don't need to worry about negotiating traffic snarls to return home, it makes life easier for me. When I interact with my counterparts in the US, I find that 90 per cent of the staff works there from home. They start work by 6 am and wind up by 4:30 pm so that they have enough family time."
